MR. RONALD JONES is a native of Athens-Clarke County.
From a young child, Mr. Jones was intrigued about the funeral service industry. He frequently
accompanied his mentor, Mr. William Jackson, around the funeral home. After successfully
matriculating through Clarke County Schools, Mr. Jones earned a degree in Mortuary Science
from Gupton-Jones Mortuary College. With his educational background, natural compassion for
others, and personal drive for greatness, his vision became a reality upon opening Jones
Funeral Chapel, LLC in 1988.
Mr. Jones enjoys new experiences, broadening his knowledge base, and networking with
others. In addition to the funeral profession, Mr. Jones was the owner of a local retail floral shop,
real estate agent, and insurance agent.
As an active citizen in his community, he faithfully serves as a member of the Georgia Funeral
Service Practitioners Association; member of the 7th District of the Georgia Funeral Service
Practitioners Association; member of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers of Georgia, Inc;
member of the Alpha Omega Chapter of the Epsilon Nu Delta Mortuary Fraternity, Inc; board
member and Vice-President of the Winterville Planning and Zoning Commission; member and
past Executive Board member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People; member and past Vice-President of the Oglethorpe County Chamber of Commerce;
member and past President of the Concerned Men of Oglethorpe County; board member of
A.C.T.I.O.N.; board member of Heavenly Sunshine Home Health; and member of the Lions
Club. He also served as a past board member of the Clarke County Division Family and
Mr. Jones has been instrumental in helping recruit African-American educators and upper-level
administration into the Oglethorpe County School System. The goal is to bridge the racial gap
between students and teachers. He imparts his life experiences and wisdom as a mentor with
the Oglethorpe County Primary School and as a member of the Oglethorpe County Jail Ministry
team. Mr. Jones wholeheartedly believes in rehabilitation and second chances in life.
Although a community activist and humanitarian, Mr. Jones is dedicated to his family. He has
been happily married to Mrs. Linda Goolsby Jones for over 35 years. They have one daughter,
Dr. Rhondolyn Jones (Pastor J. Ricardo) Smith and one grandson, Jameson Isaiah Smith. He is
a member of the New Bethlehem Baptist Church and serves in leadership as a member, Chair
of the Trustee Ministry and past Chairman of the Deacon’s Ministry.
Mr. Jones believes in making a positive impact in his community living by the old mantra “May
the Works I’ve Done Speak for Me”.
